This morning, our partners at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) released a report on homelessness in Ontario.
The report found the overall number of Ontarians known to be homeless has increased more than 25 per cent since 2022 (over 80,000 people). In rural communities, homelessness has grown by more than 150 per cent since 2016 compared to an average of about 50 per cent across all communities, while in Northern Ontario, homelessness has risen by an estimated 204 per cent since 2016, more than four times faster than in southern Ontario over the same time period.
Homelessness continues to be an urgent and complex issue, and a holistic approach from all levels of government is required to start working towards a meaningful solution.
