Every June 21, Canadians come together to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, an opportunity to honour the rich cultures and contributions of Canada’s First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.
CMHA Lambton Kent’s Indigenous Services Team offers both community services that are culture-based specifically for Indigenous peoples, and mainstream services offered to all communities. We recognize that wellness in Indigenous cultures is about being in balance and harmony and focusing on strengths rather than weaknesses. It is about being connected to family, community and nature. Our Indigenous Services Team aims to deliver whole body healing based on these principles.
Services offered by CMHA Lambton Kent’s Indigenous Services team include:
- Clinical Case Management
- Crisis Services
- Court Support
- Psychotherapy – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
Our team will have an information booth at Maawnjidimi Indigenous Network’s National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration (Wednesday, June 21, 2023 4-8PM at 25 Eighth Street, Chatham).
There are many ways you can also celebrate the culture and contributions of Indigenous peoples today and beyond, including:
- Explore learning resources about First Nations, Inuit and Métis across Canada
- Download and share National Indigenous History Month and National Indigenous Peoples Day images to show your support.
- Check out the #IndigenousReads reading list, compiled by Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada
- Join the conversation on social media with the hashtag #NIPD2023
CMHA Lambton Kent encourages our community to take time today to learn about and honour Indigenous cultures, both locally and nationally.
